The Best Explanation For Fashion I Have Heard

My friends know me as the guy with the black shirts. For the last six years, my favorite piece of clothing has been a plain black lycra Giordano T-shirt. I like it so much that at one point I think I had five of them, one for each day of the week. I’m a fashion disaster. I’ve always thought that fashion was nonsense and not worth paying attention to - clothes is about utility and quality and durability.

A bit of that opinion changed when I watched this interview of Tim Gunn (from the show Project Runway) by Jon Stewart on The Daily Show.

We need clothes, do we need fashion? No… And fashion when it is good, it comes out of a context that’s societal, and cultural, and historic, and economic, and political, so it’s of a time and place.
