Oh Guy A is definitely so gay. And I agree - why anyone would consider that a triumph is beyond me.

You are fast becoming one of my favourite bloggers, Ian. <3

hey WhiteDuskRed, no worries. Do share more if you have further thoughts.

I do understand and appreciate your perspective.

However, I believe that the situation our ancestors faced and that which we face are different. At that time, everyone in Singapore were "PR"s. Singaporean wasn't a country with any citizens yet.

Now we have citizens who have done their duty for the country.

I believe that doing National Service should count for something. What and how, is of course open to debate.

There is also the difficulty in quantifying contribution.

I think I understand the point the author of the excerpt is trying to make. However, after reading your comment, I realized I may have erroneously combined a few issues which led to my sympathy for the author's point.

Thanks. I got to think more about this.

Most schools in Singapore are good. The top students may not come from the top schools. What makes a premier school a premier choice?

I have citizen friends who were exempted from NS for 1 reason or another. Does that mean that they deserve less than those who served NS?

I served NS. I'm working in HK. I get no tax rebates for my NS stint since I'm working here. Should the government pay me the difference I lost out in NS tax rebates?

Anyway 90% of Singaporeans are descendants of "PR". Most of our descendants came from China, India, Malaysia many years ago. They ventured out of their comfort zone and seeked a better livelihood in Singapura. The richer arrivals would dine with the British socialites while the poor would work as coolies. Rich go to good school and poor got no school. Nothing to do with NS or no NS. Rich will always get more. Simply because they can afford the time and money.

To whiners who are not happy with the way the system works in Singapore : Venture out of Singapore and work overseas for 3-4 years OR Get to the top of PAP and change the way things work.

Sorry for taking up so much space here Ian.

Shh. You get to leave the Matrix. But don't tell anyone else! Nobody likes the guy who says Santa doesn't exist. (Don't worry, kiddies, he so does.)

Riddle me this -
This post, the Reality TeeVee post, and The Dark Knight post.

Hint: 50% superhero and 50% not.

Just enjoy the show; why so serious?
