Is Ho Yeow Sun a pastor? If you are familiar with City Harvest Church, you probably would not have missed the controversy that surrounded her when she entered the secular music industry; a controversy based on arguments that it was inappropriate for a pastor to do so. I’ve read that the church leaders have in recent years sought to distance her from the tag ‘pastor’. Personally, I have encountered this possible policy a few years back when I noticed that the church bulletin started addressing her differently.
That to me was rather disappointing – disappointing because of an article published by the magazine Harvest Times.
I found this magazine when i was packing for the moving of my house. The last scan shows that when she first started her career, there was the deliberate positioning to associate her as a music/singing pastor.

If I am not wrong, she was never a Pastor in actuality. Although yeah her husband is the pastor and she did help out in church, I think the label Pastor Sun was totally media created.

hmmmm…. never been a fan of her.
people told me she’s not a pastor anymore, and now here it writes “Pastor Ho……”

Well, I don’t know about her. But she sure looks cool in photos.

Sorry everyone….for approving the comments so late and only just replying to them….
@spankalot – the magazine was published by the church. So the pastor tag was definitely not media created.
@yongwei – the magazine is an old one….long before the controversy started.
@QuaChee – I’m disappointed because I used to support her and what she was doing based on the premise that it was a pastor who was entering the secular music industry to make a difference there and not be part of it. Now that the pastor tag has been dropped, it seems the original reason has been lost.

Think it’s a job switch? Pastor is a vocation as much as being a singer is too…

Pastor or not pastor, is it so important?
End of the day, we as Singaporeans should be giving Sun credit for putting Singapore music on the world map, isn’t it?
Sun may not be called a postor anymore, but from what we know from news articles, she is still vey much active in social work in places like China, Taiwan, etc, building schools, setting up funds..
Lets cut her some slack pls. Thanks

you must see from what she has done to China.. How kind she is to everybody.. and built schools in China as well. Even she is not a pastor anymore from what she has done.. she is still doing what Christian has done.. so please don’t think she is not a pastor then you are disappointed.. c’mon man.. cheer up. If she can do like that helping people, why don’t you start to help people as well rather then you continue writing a comment of “i’m disappointed”. God Bless You

Hello @Habayo and @Marc,
Totally missing the point. The matter is not whether she is a pastor anymore. The point is the consistency in the things she says and how she might flip-flop to her convenience.
That, more than all the good works, probably says a lot about a person’s intention(s).
‘Cut her some slack’? Gosh – you make it sound like I’m hounding her.
@Habayo – each of us contribute to society in our own way. It would be terribly rude of me to reply to your comment by saying ‘Why don’t you help people like she has instead of commenting on blogs’.
It would be rude and terribly obtuse.
So I won’t.

I’m not a CHC member; but she is PASTOR Ho Yeow Sun to me. That is respect to a good human being who is obedient to God’s work. After all who is going to bring the Gospel to the entertainment world? You? Me? Someone wearing a traditional priest’s cloak? Don’t think so – they’ll be freaked out.
True Christians do not force-sell Christ. They show Christ’s love and work to others and let them experience Christ in flesh and blood and when they asked; introduce God to them via Jesus. Nobody cares how much you and I know until they know how much you and I care about them.
So if all of us are idling, doing no significant good work, should stop sabotaging other’s work. Anyone criticising Madonna for her lewd works and for screwing up lady’s jeans and skirts -> hipsters / no more normal jeans and skirts nowadays.

I’m a missionary working in the philippines since 1981. Pastor Yeow sun came for some ministry here 20 years ago and we organised out door meetings where she preached and prayed for the sick. Many people received Jesus as their Lord and Savior and got healed of their sicknesses.
We thank God for her life and will continue to pray that she’ll allow God to work thru her.
Her ministry have impacted many lives and we love her. Shalom. Florence Ng, iloilo city.

Well, she probably didn’t think she would be this successful back then. When the pastor tag becomes a liability rather than an asset (can u imagine how embarassing to be known as a pastor among the popstars while dancing “Chinawine”?), she just dropped it. Then, it became apparent that this is also a lame because she is still the wife of the Senior Pastor! So, what’s the next step for them to do? You guess it right. Now her husband is telling everyone that he is a businessman. Now the man also wants to drop the pastor tag! I just find them amusing. I sincerely think they started well some 20 years ago, but the question is, are they finishing well, with all these temptations surrounding them? Well, no matter what they will still have their hardcore followers. So, they’ll be fine, in man’s terms.
