The thing is the blogosphere seems to be going on about how Singapore/EDB once again screwed up. My take is, yeah..well..it is getting a bit old to keep going on and on about Singapore/EDB being that fat ugly chick. I think we kinda all know that maybe not as a fact but more in terms of local opinion..Anyway, maybe it is time to look at the other party, and reading today's newspaper, we kinda get the other side of the story. Of course, people can say this is just MSM propaganda and hey..they might be right. Anyway, my take is that Singapore isn't the only country trying to pull this strategy and UNSW isn't the only university trying to globalize. Others have done it before and some have done well. We always seem to have this impression that Singapore/EDB is the desperate party that wants everyone to set up shop in Singapore, but we never consider that other parties might be desperate on their own part to branch out and so they don't make completely wise and informed decisions. We also always only think that Singapore leaders want to leave a legacy and forget that the individuals of foreign bodies do too. Now, I don't know the timeline of UNSW's employment of the different people at the top, but when I read about it, it seems to me that someone at the top wanted to pull one last rabbit out of the hat before his time was up and someone wanted to stamp his when he came in.
