I dunno noe how true it is but then there was YK, TCW cases of the past. So nothing is fool proof. I am not saying the interview panel ppl are not capable of doing their work.

I just think that statistically the more the ‘viewing’, perhaps there is a better chance. Look at American Idol for example, the risk of it being a popularity contest is counterbalanced by the judges’ comments and the person’s performance from show to show (i.e. track record). Once an Idol is selected, it seems that he/she cannot go far wrong in the box office. However whether he/she will become an evergreen veteran like Elton John, Celine Dion or ahem, just Whitney Houston alone, hard to say.

Look at cnet.com. amazon.com, petitiononline etc etc, it’s more than just social networking, it is democractization at work to some degree. It’s just the odds and that possibly collectively there will be some wisdom better than one person saying or endorsing.

My guess is that if taken in a serious context rather than a trivial context, and structure properly, chances are the results are valuable, better than no results. Heck, even blogging with comments coming in is in a similar vein. It’s just more transparent.

Especially since there have been studies to show that you can use facial recognition tools to see if someone is lying or not. Hiya…just put them on a lie detector…ok ok..abit extreme…

hmmm..but interesting point, do you think that the wisdom of the crowd can better select scholars than a committee?

n as for the video, dun edit or censor it. the successful scholar gets to keep a copy in digital format of course. in this way, no one will forget easily wat was said, how it was said etc, why? wat were the thots n motivations there and then.

btw, video tape the interview panel also.

put them on youtube, and let collective wisdom have a say, no lah, just kidding.

In any case, we don’t need managers for the scholarship program. We need astute recruiters.
