I love board games. But the problem with board games is that it is hard to find people to play with. Fortunately, I have a group of friends who are quite interested in them. These friends came over to my place over the weekend and we had a really great session.
We played the game that got me hooked on these so called euro games - The Settlers of Catan.
I introduced my friends to a new game called ‘Ticket To Ride’
And I learnt a new game called ‘Carcassonne’
All these games were bought by us from this really wonderful shop called ‘Paradigm Infinitum’. There is a healthy community of gamers in Singapore and this shop is one of the focal points for that community. The staff there are also gamers and really know their stuff. They have never recommended a game that I didn’t enjoy. The shop has a website here and you can also find out more about these kind of boardgames here.

Hi,
I enjoyed reading this… very timely too. I’ve recently set up a Wiki-website dedicated to offering information about games, gaming and ‘winning’ strategies. We are looking for people with expert knowledge to help us boost the content of the site. Having read your postings I wondered if you would be able to help us. Please take a look at our site (still very much in its infancy), and if you would like to edit or add a section (even an extract from one of your blog-entries) we would be delighted. Of course, you are welcome to add links back to your blog. You can also create an “Author’s” page with further links if you like.
Regards,
Harrison

Settlers of Catan! I was so hooked on that when I got to play during a US writer’s camp. I’m happy to see there are SG players.

Good morning Harrison. I have taken a look at your site and it seems interesting. Are you a Singaporean? Singapore is building some casinos and I believe your site will probably become a favourite destination for a lot of Singaporeans soon. Hmm… I’m not an expert in boardgames by any measure, just someone who really enjoys playing them. If you want to look for experts, and if you are in Singapore, do look for the people at Paradigm Infinitum. The guys there are really really knowledgeable in this area. And they love to help. I will definitely see what I can contribute to your site.
Hello Janet! I got hooked on Settlers because of friends who came back from the states who were hooked on it while studying there. It is really a fun game and it also encourages a lot of interaction which is one reason why I am starting to spend more time on boardgames then computer games.
In anycase, are you in Singapore? Apparently, there are some regular Settlers gathering held in Singapore where people just come and play with each other. If you haven’t managed to get your friends hook on Settlers yet and you need playing buddies, those gatherings could be a source of getting your Settlers fix.

Allow me to put in a plug then.
There is a Singapore Boardgamers Meetup group in Singapore.
It is the perfect place for people to find other people to play boardgames with. We currently run 4 events per month.
Just go to http://www.meetup.com, and search by country.
Registration is free, and there are no obligations.

iantimothy,
Thank you for you comments. Unfortunately no, I am not a Singaporean. I live and work in the UK although the win-ipedia site is hosted in the USA - such is the world! I have visted Singapore and have friends who live there but that is the extent of my relationship. Thank you again for the kind things you said about the win-ipedia site… here in the UK casinos are about to be built, but I am also hoping to extend the ‘Gaming’ section of the website, I know many, many people are interested in that.

H

Hi Ian!
I don’t know if you know who I am…and if you don’t, I guess it’s a little paiseh…
Anyways, I’m a board gamer myself, and so are some other bloggers, like Aaron and Bernard Leong. Some other bloggers, like Gaygle, Ben and Kitana are willing to try it out. I’m thinking of organizing a blogger boardgame gathering sometime. Would you be interested?
Contact me on my email (fearfullyopinionated@gmail.com) if you like the idea. =)
